You’ll be in good hands at Schuchart Dentistry. Once you walk into our office, you’ll check in with one of our front office employees. You may need to fill out a few forms unless you’ve already filled them out online. Then, relax in our comfortable waiting room. You can enjoy a complimentary beverage or baked snack, and sit back while you wait for your appointment.
When it’s time to see you, one of our team members will bring you back to a patient operatory. Typically, your dental assistant will greet you and take x-rays & color pictures of your teeth. X-rays are always recommended for new patients, since they let our dentists get deeper insights into your oral health.
Dr. Sylvia or Dr. Chris will come into the operatory. They’ll talk to you, get to know you, and learn a little more about your oral health history. Then, they’ll perform a comprehensive oral exam. They will look for signs of things like tooth decay, gum disease, and even oral cancer. Once the doctors have performed their exam and reviewed your x-rays and photos, the hygienist will clean, polish, and floss your teeth.
After your exam and cleaning are done, your dentist and hygienist will discuss your oral health with you, and any next steps or other treatments you may need to take to keep your mouth healthy. Then, you’ll check in with our front office team again to run your insurance and take payment, if needed. This is also when you’ll schedule any necessary follow-ups. Finally, you’ll be sent home with a healthy, bright smile.
First, we recommend filling out your new patient forms online and before your scheduled appointment to save you some time. You can also fill them out at our office if you forget. You also should bring your driver’s license, insurance card, and a credit card or some other method of payment in case you've got a co-pay.
And that’s just about it! You can also bring a detailed medical history and dental records from your previous dentist if you have them, but these are not essential.
